Darfur: The Crisis in Sudan

Tragedy. This is the word that comes to my mind when I think about the crisis that is occurring in Sudan right now. It's a sad thing to see millions of people dead or relocated to other countries to get out of the war in their country. It's also a sad thing to see innocent children, women and men harmed and killed for no reason. It has been reported that 1.2 million people have been displaced from their homes in Sudan and at least 200,000 have fled to neighboring Chad. Due to the war that is happening in Sudan, as many as 405 villages have been destroyed by the rebel groups and other people. At least 50,000 people have died as a result of the conflict between government-backed Arab militias and Africans in western Sudan and living conditions in the region threaten hundreds of thousands of people. From the conflict, it has caused shortages of food, supplies and medical care. Fortunately, the U.N. World Food Program delivered food to nearly one million people in Darfur in August, falling short of its goal of 1.2 million people. Unfortunately, if the situation persists, the U.S. Agency for International Development estimates that at least 350,000 people will die of disease and malnutrition by the end of the year. From these killings it has been estimated that 180,000 people have died and 2 million have been displaced from the crisis that is occurring in the Darfur region of western Sudan. If we or any one else doesn’t do anything to stop this crisis from continuing or spreading to other countries then this could without a doubt get worse and effect or harm innocent people around the world.
